Assessment Overview
Method of Assessment
We are responsible for providing quality training and assessment in compliance with the Standards of RTO's Clauses 5.1 and 5.2, and for the issuance of the AQF (Australian Qualifications Framework) certification documentation. The term assessment refers to the process that the Australian Adult Learning Institute will use to gather and discuss information from multiple and diverse sources, in order to develop a clear picture of what a student knows, has learnt and understood, and can do with their knowledge gained as a result of their educational experience with us.
Our goal is to guide you towards the successful completion of your Nationally Recognised Qualification with the industry knowledge and practice, to confidently implement these skills into a workplace environment.
Upon enrolment you will be provided with an Assessment Plan recommending the dates to complete your assessments over the 12 month period.
The assessments that you will be completing
You should respond to all the formative and summative assessments by completing your assessments online after you have read all the online learning resources for the unit of competency that you are currently studying. Written responses can be recorded in the areas provided within your online learning, or submitted in either a word or pdf document. As part of the completion of your online course you are required to complete knowledge based questions and practical demonstrations of the skills you have gained.
For some of these activities you may be required to work and interact with others in a practical application and/or setting.
Assessments during the COVID-19 Pandemic
There are 2 Options available to achieve this:
Option 1
You have the opportunity to demonstrate that you have completed the practical skills and performance required by the verification and confirmation of this by a suitable Third Party Referee (e.g. Recent or Current Manager or Supervisor).
Should this be the case, please advise your dedicated AALI Trainer/Assessor who will be able to provide you with guidance of how this can be achieved, and the resources for your suitable Third Party Referee to complete.
Option 2
If you do not have access to a suitable Third Party Referee, do not be concerned.
In this instance you are able to complete the required skills and performance within simulated assessment activities.
You may be required to work and interact with others in simulated assessment activities.
To ensure you are safe and that you abide by the social distancing protocols as advised by the Department of Health, we recommend when completing these simulated assessment activities that you use online platforms for example Face Time, Skype or Zoom, for the provision of recorded evidence of the completion of these simulated assessment activities.
Should this be the case, please advise your dedicated AALI Trainer/Assessor who will provide you with the simulated assessment activities to complete, together with information about the evidence you are required to provide, to demonstrate the completion of the practical requirements for the unit/s you are completing.

All assessments are conducted in accordance with the following standards, and according to the Training Package, and the Unit of Competency requirements:
Principles of Assessment
Fairness
The individual learner’s needs are considered in the assessment process.Where appropriate, reasonable adjustments are applied by the RTO to take into account the individual learner’s needs. The RTO informs the learner about the assessment process, and provides the learner with the opportunity to challenge the result of the assessment and be reassessed if necessary.
Flexibility
Assessment is flexible to the individual learner by:
reflecting the learner’s needs;assessing competencies held by the learner no matter how or where they have been acquired; anddrawing from a range of assessment methods and using those that are appropriate to the context, the unit of competency and associated assessment requirements, and the individual
Validity
Any assessment decision of the RTO is justified, based on the evidence of performance of the individual learner.
Validity requires:
- assessment against the unit(s) of competency and the associated assessment requirements covers the broad range of skills and knowledge that are essential to competent performance;
- assessment of knowledge and skills is integrated with their practical application;
- assessment to be based on evidence that demonstrates that a learner could demonstrate these skills and knowledge in other similar situations; and
- judgement of competence is based on evidence of learner performance that is aligned to the unit/s of competency and associated assessment requirements
Reliability
Evidence presented for assessment is consistently interpreted and assessment results are comparable irrespective of the assessor conducting the assessment.
Rules of Evidence
Validity
The assessor is assured that the learner has the skills, knowledge and attributes as described in the module or unit of competency and associated assessment requirements.
Sufficiency
The assessor is assured that the quality, quantity and relevance of the assessment evidence enables a judgement to be made of a learner’s competency.
Authenticity
The assessor is assured that the evidence presented for assessment is the learner’s own work.
Currency
The assessor is assured that the assessment evidence demonstrates current competency. This requires the assessment evidence to be from the present or the very recent past.
